Encapsulate asbestos sheeting using sprayfoam and save
money on replacing your roof.
Websters
Insulation offers an alternative to the costly prospect
of having to remove and dispose of an old asbestos roof.
We can use our Webtherm Class One foam system to spray
onto the underside of the roof and seal in the asbestos
and provide a barrier between it and the environment.
We
only currently offer products for encapsulation, and not
for fibre suppression during removal.
Our
supplier 'Isothane' offers Vanquish as a specialist liquid-applied
encapsulation product that is suitable for most forms
of asbestos that may be found inside buildings. It is
not suitable for exterior use. It is rated Class 0 for
surface spread of flame so maintains fire protection when
used to encapsulate on the interior. Vanquish is the only
Isothane product that may be used on asbestos other than
Asbestos Cement ( AC ).
AC
roof eg; ‘big 6’ may be coated on the interior
with Vanquish, or if insulation is required, then spray
foam alone on the interior may be acceptable ( Class 1
minimum of course, eg; Agrispray ). It may be coated on
the exterior with a waterproofing membrane system such
as EMA or Foamshield; and if insulation is required but
the preference is to apply it to the outside then exterior
foam could be first applied, eg; Thermadek, with the waterproofing
membrane on top.
Any
combination of the above could be acceptable to encapsulate
an AC roof, therefore possible scenarios / options are
as follows:
•Vanquish
on interior only ( and no requirement specified for exterior
protection because AC may be considered lower risk )
•Vanquish on interior and waterproofing membrane
on exterior ( in case exterior encapsulation is insisted
on or new waterproofing is needed because of the condition
of the roof )
•Spray foam on interior only
•Spray foam on interior and waterproofing membrane
on exterior
•Vanquish on interior and spray foam and waterproofing
membrane on exterior
The situation has to be assessed on a case-by-case basis,
because the HSE and surveyors, etc will often only advise
asbestos cement to be encapsulated if it is exposed internally;
and there is a possibility for kick damage i.e. on wall
cladding, or there is a lot of vibration in the building.
