The Challenge
The 15,000 capacity Lakeside Stadium complex is a £28 million project initiated by Doncaster City Council and is due for completion in December 2006. After that, the sports stadium will be home to Doncaster Rovers FC, Doncaster Belles FC and the newly renamed Doncaster Lakers RLFC.
The entire stadium project needed to comply with Part L2 of the latest building regulations regarding thermal and acoustic insulation and fire retardation. As well as sealing in crowd noise and providing fire protection for large areas of the terraces, spectators also needed to be protected from isolated cold spots occurring at the venue.
The stadium's architects, Carillion needed impartial
insulation advice, as well as a broad range of options
regarding suitable products.
We were contacted by Carrillion
near the late stages of the stadiums development to
provide a solution to elimiate cold bridging and eliminate
condensation forming on the steel work around the stadium,
in particular above office space and the like. They
wanted a system which could be sprayed in place onto
the steel work itself and still give an excellent fire
safety rating.
The Websters Solution
Websters Insulation's
on-site advisor was able to draw up a complete product
specification for the stadium as a whole. To tackle
both the cold spot problem and conform to the stringent
fire regulations, Websters Insulation supplied and applied
the Pirthane Class O fire rated insulation system, comprised
of Pirthane HR foam and an Intumescant coating was then
applied onto the foam.
